Introduction:
And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (Luke 2:52)
Homework. Parents. College. Temptation. Friends. Going out. YouTube. Having Fun. Stress. Peer Pressure. Freedom. Rebellion.
So many things occupy the lives of teenagers nowadays. Teens are no longer kids; they no longer are in elementary school and they no longer struggle with what kids struggle with. Teenagers are bombarded with images and choices from friends, from parents, from the media, from the school, and so many other places. They realize that they have more freedom and that they have the ability to make certain choices for themselves.
And it becomes harder and harder for teens to stay close to God.
When we look at the passage in the Gospel of Luke, Luke describes how Jesus grew. It is recorded that Jesus grew in two areas: mentally and physically. It also says that Jesus grew in favor in two areas: with God and with others.
This has been the goal of G.A.P. for the past 10 years.
Ministry Objective:
Make disciples of our youths by introducing them to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and teaching them to obey everything our Lord Jesus Christ has commanded, through observing situations in life and learning how to make the best choices that most glorify God.
Here in G.A.P., we know that teenagers go through a lot and that their lives have ups and downs. But God remains the same. He is always there for us, even if our own emotions or feelings change. When we make the right decisions, God is pleased and we have great joy in glorifying Him. When we make wrong decisions, God disciplines us. But he does it in mercy and grace, yearning that we will come back to Him. Throughout life and all that it throws us, it is our aim to challenge these youths to become disciples of Christ and to become God's Appointed People (G.A.P.).
Information:
G.A.P. meets every Saturday in the CBC Church Office, from 7PM – 9:15PM. All teens from grades 6th – 12th are welcome to come and attend. There is usually free dinner supplied by our church from 6 – 7 PM, so that it will not be a burden to any families who wish to come to our church. Younger siblings are encouraged to attend our church's AWANA Ministry and Chinese-speaking parents are encouraged to attend our GanLin Ministry or PuTongHua Ministry that meet at the same time.
